World Students Day- Birth Anniversary of Missile Man
Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the most popular President, an aerospace engineer, scientist in India’s history, was born on 15 October 1931 in a small coastal town in Tamil Nadu. Kalam was closely linked to India’s missile programme. October 15, which is Dr. Kalam’s birth anniversary, is celebrated as a day for students all around the world.
But his favourite job was teaching and that’s how he wanted the world to remember him. Due to his love for students and focus on promoting education, the United Nations declared his birthday (October 15) as ‘World Student’s Day’ in 2010. His sudden demise on July 27, shocked the nation but Kalam died doing what he loved best: teaching. Delivering a lecture to the students of IIM Shillong, Kalam fell down the stage suffering a stroke and passed away almost instantly. The entire nation grieved his demise irrespective of caste, creed, location or religion.It was year 2010 when United Nations decided to mark the importance of India’s former President and great scientist APJ Abdul Kalam and declared his birthday as ‘World Students Day’.
On the sad demise of ‘Missile Man’, people of India and around the world, specially students paid tribute to him by reminding the world about his birthday and its significance internationally.
Kalam was a gem the nation will treasure forever. It is only fitting that the world remembers October 15 has World Student’s Day as a mark of respect to the man.
