Reading books can really give that much needed break to your life from the commotion which you had been dreaming ever since you got trap in your busy schedule. It keeps you at a distance from all those worries, pensive mood that had been continuously pestering you at lengths since long time. The joy of reading the books comes with an experience. It makes us feel relaxed and also rejuvenate our brain completely. It gives us plenty of joy and peace, encourages us when we feel defeated, they connect us emotionally; bring change in our thought process, and thus giving us a profound satisfaction.

In the country like India, there has always been a demand for good literature. This is the sole reason why the demand of the literature mounts not only for the Hindi language but for the other widely spoken languages too. As we strive to establish a knowledgeable society, books act as a solid tool in proliferating ideas, knowledge and information. Even the epics like Mahabharata, Ramayana and Bhagwad Gita have always acted as a constant source of knowledge & inspiration in the Indian mythology. In fact, reading books have always been one of the most vital parts of our rich heritage and no other medium can ever yield such euphoric experience. Don’t you think that good books act as our real mates? Yes! They are our best companion, they demand nothing from us.

In the country like India, the habit of reading book is growing annually. This is true not only for the printed version but also for the e-books as we all are moving at a high pace with the technology and internet. Till 90’s Indian youth had a passion for reading the printed books but with the advancement of technology it is shifting more towards the e-books. E-books today are really capturing the attention of the people. Nowadays, in all the aspects especially; electronic media is considered to be more reliable and authentic source for excavating the deep knowledge of the happenings that take place globally. Though, the electronic means of reading books hasn’t become so popular in India but people seem to spend their quality time with the internet and their smart phones.

The sale of the printed books remained stagnant and has been deteriorating drastically since the past few years as people do not like to carry the bulk, they remain expensive and they create some environmental issues too. As of now, our countrymen are more concerned about e-books as the internet and digital devices takes no time in reaching the public throughout the country.  As a result, the internet and e-books seem to be replacing the printed version and simultaneously giving a better time to the publishing industry for the new start ups which will enable them to increase their overall sale, profit, brand visibility, dignity and credibility. Moreover, it will also enable them to have a powerful strategic online digital platform that they can use in future for massively promoting all kinds of book they publish thus making them a well renowned book publishing brand. As the publishing industry matures, it will provide impetus to new genre of authors.

The popularity of e-book is rising but at a gradual rate because till now large percentage of our total population doesn’t know about the electronic mode of reading books. Study says the more users are expected to grow by 2020. Despite of these challenges, India is emerging as a hub of books. The trend of book reading will never go wane rather it will always grow. On a broader note, big efforts are required for promoting the reading habits among the youth and coming generation. The government, publishers and digital media companies are required to invest the hard efforts for creating an awareness campaigns to make the availability of the good books among the masses to impart the knowledge so that they can know about the history, science, literature and their culture too.

If literacy grows e-books will also grow thus digitizing the country at massive level.
